It certainly doesn't hurt to be in a high profile program because you will be acknowledged more. The summer has just about become the sole effort of recruiters to determine talent. Travel budgets and opportunities to see kids play has always been an issue and will continue to be. The big schools that is not a problem but in most cases they already know who they want. Also and most important, you need someone who can open doors for you. Someone who has some crediability that can solicite your talent and abilities where you are separated from others. A coach, or a former player, alum of the school etc.

On the west coast recruiting is often rushed. Schools have a certain number of days to recruit. A lot of the western schools use 50% or less of their allotted recruiting days. Coaches work from a list of players. There are coaches that just don't take the time to really see the kids that are out there. Thay won't go to a tournament unless there is some well-known named kid there. They won't go to smaller tournaments to find that diamond in the rough. It's unfortunate but this is what hurts a lot of programs sadly.
